How to create a WordPress website with Claude: Claude chat connected to a finished WordPress site

Quick Answer

The fastest way to create a WordPress website with Claude is to add the 1ClickWebsite connector to Claude and ask for the site in a chat message. Claude has a complete, hosted WordPress website built for the business in a few minutes and sends you the link. After that, you can ask Claude to change text, pages, SEO, colors, and images, and every change can be undone.

Setup takes about two minutes:

  1. In Claude, open Customize → Connectors → Add → Add custom connector.
  2. Name it 1ClickWebsite and enter https://www.1clickwebsite.ai/api/mcp.
  3. Click Add, then Connect, sign in to your 1ClickWebsite account, and click Allow.
  4. Ask Claude: "Build a website for Harbor Plumbing, a plumber in San Diego, CA."

You need a 1ClickWebsite account; each new site uses one site credit. Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector, and Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans support them too.

Four Ways to Build a WordPress Site With Claude

Claude can help with WordPress in very different ways. They mostly differ in where WordPress comes from and who does the clicking.

ApproachWhat Claude doesDo you need WordPress set up first?Best for
Chat assistant (copy and paste)Writes the sitemap, copy, CSS, and HTML snippets that you paste into WordPressYesOne-off help on a site you already run
Claude Code building a theme or pluginWrites theme and plugin files in a local projectYes, usually a local installDevelopers who want custom code
A connector to an existing site (WordPress.com, AI Engine, and similar)Reads and edits posts, pages, media, and settings on that siteYesManaging content on a site that already exists
The 1ClickWebsite connectorCreates the hosted WordPress site, then edits itNoGetting a complete business website from a chat

The first three are useful, but they all start after someone has installed WordPress, picked a theme, and built the pages. The 1ClickWebsite connector starts one step earlier: Claude asks 1ClickWebsite to generate the whole site, including the homepage, service pages, service-area pages, contact page, forms, and starter copy and images, on WordPress hosting that is already set up.

What You Need

  • A Claude account. Custom connectors work on every Claude plan. Free accounts can add one custom connector.
  • A 1ClickWebsite account with at least one site credit. Creating a site uses one credit, and editing sites doesn't use credits.
  • The business details: name, trade, city, phone number, and the main services. Claude can ask you for anything that's missing.

Step 1: Add the 1ClickWebsite Connector to Claude

  1. In claude.ai or the Claude desktop app, open Customize in the sidebar, then Connectors.
  2. Click Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. Enter the name 1ClickWebsite and the MCP server URL:
https://www.1clickwebsite.ai/api/mcp
  1. Click Continue. Claude detects how to sign in on its own: leave Sign in now and Register automatically selected.
  2. Click Add.

On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds the connector under Organization settings → Connectors, and members then connect from Customize → Connectors.

Step 2: Sign In and Allow Access

Click Connect on the new connector. A 1ClickWebsite page opens and asks you to sign in, then shows what Claude will be able to do:

  • See your sites and create new ones with your credits
  • Run Lead Gen batches and see their results
  • Edit your finished sites, with every edit able to be undone

Click Allow. You return to Claude, which shows Connected to 1ClickWebsite. Claude never sees your password or billing details, and you can disconnect it from the connector's settings at any time.

Step 3: Ask Claude to Build the Site

Start a new chat and describe the business. The more real detail you give, the less Claude has to guess:

Build a website for Harbor Plumbing, a plumber in San Diego, CA.
Phone (619) 555-0134. Services: drain cleaning, water heater repair,
leak detection and repiping. We serve San Diego, Chula Vista and La Mesa.

Claude checks your credits, picks a template (or asks you which one you want), and starts the build. A build takes a few minutes (about three in our test), so Claude tells you it's underway and may schedule a check-in to come back with the link. You can also ask "Is it ready?" at any time, and Claude checks the build and sends you the site link and the WordPress admin link.

The first time Claude uses a 1ClickWebsite tool, it asks for permission. Choose Always allow for the 1ClickWebsite tools, or Claude asks again before every step. A single build or edit can involve ten or more tool calls.

Step 4: Edit the Site From the Chat

Once the site is built, keep talking to Claude. You can ask for changes like these:

On Harbor Plumbing, change the small text above the homepage headline
to "Trusted San Diego Plumbers".

Add an FAQ about emergency service hours to the homepage.

Write a blog post about signs your water heater is failing and publish it.

Make the main brand color darker and check the buttons still stand out.

Change the SEO title of the drain cleaning page.

Before editing, Claude is directed to read the site's editing guide, so it changes the right fields instead of rewriting whole pages. Edits go live right away; in our tests a text change was on the live site within about a minute, and Claude reloaded the page to confirm it.

Step 5: Undo Anything You Don't Like

Every change Claude makes is saved as an undoable step. To roll it back, ask:

Undo that change.

Claude restores the previous version and confirms the live page is back to how it was. This makes it safe to try a headline, a color, or a new section and keep only what works.

What Else the Connector Can Do

  • Check your account: "How many credits do I have, and what are my newest sites?"
  • Follow builds: "Is the Lakeline Electric site finished yet?"
  • Make Lead Gen demo sites: give Claude a list of businesses, and it creates a one-page demo website for each, plus a CSV of the links. This uses Lead Gen credits.
  • Work across sites: list every site in your account and edit whichever one you name.

The connector can't buy credits, change your plan, or see sites outside your own 1ClickWebsite account.

Using Claude Code Instead

If you work in Claude Code, connect the same server with an API key from your 1ClickWebsite API Keys page:

claude mcp add --transport http 1clickwebsite https://www.1clickwebsite.ai/api/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"

Claude Code then has the full set of site-creation, Lead Gen, and editing tools in your terminal. The MCP setup guide covers Cursor, Codex, and other agents. For building sites with your own code and stack instead, see how to build a local business website with Claude Code or Codex.

Tips for Better Results

  • Give real facts, not adjectives. Services, service areas, phone number, and hours produce a better first version than "make it modern and professional."
  • Review before you share. Treat the first build as a strong draft. Check the business details, the contact form, and the mobile layout before sending it to a client.
  • Ask for one change at a time when the change matters, so each undo step is small.
  • Ask Claude to verify. "Confirm it's live" makes Claude reload the page and check the change instead of assuming it worked.

Common Problems

I don't see "Add custom connector"

On Team and Enterprise plans, only owners can add custom connectors. Ask an owner to add it under Organization settings. On the Free plan, you can only have one custom connector, so remove another one first if you've used it.

Claude keeps asking for permission

Choose Always allow the next time Claude asks to use a 1ClickWebsite tool. The setting applies to that connector's tools from then on.

Claude says I'm out of credits

Creating a site uses one site credit. Add credits or change your plan on 1clickwebsite.ai, then ask Claude again. Editing existing sites doesn't need credits.

The connector shows as disconnected

Open Customize → Connectors, select 1ClickWebsite, and click Connect to sign in again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Claude build a WordPress website by itself?

Yes, with the 1ClickWebsite connector. Claude sends the business details to 1ClickWebsite, which builds a complete multi-page WordPress website on its own hosting, and Claude returns the link when it's ready. Without a connector, Claude can write the copy and code, but you still have to install WordPress and assemble the site yourself.

Do I need to install WordPress first?

No. 1ClickWebsite creates the WordPress installation, theme, pages, and hosting as part of the build. The other Claude-and-WordPress approaches, like the WordPress.com connector or an MCP plugin such as AI Engine, connect Claude to a site that already exists.

Is the result a real WordPress site?

Yes. Each site is a real WordPress installation you can log in to, edit in WordPress, connect to your own domain, and keep editing with Claude.

How is this different from the WordPress.com connector for Claude?

The WordPress.com connector lets Claude read and manage content on a WordPress.com site you already have, such as posts, pages, comments, and media. The 1ClickWebsite connector creates the complete business website first, then edits it. If you already run a WordPress.com site, their connector is the natural fit; if you need a new local-business website, start with 1ClickWebsite.

Can Claude edit a site that wasn't built with 1ClickWebsite?

Not through this connector. It works with websites in your 1ClickWebsite account. For other WordPress sites, use a WordPress MCP plugin or the WordPress.com connector.

Is it safe to give Claude access to my website?

Claude only gets the access you approve on the 1ClickWebsite sign-in page, and only to sites in your own account. It never sees your password or billing details, every edit can be undone, and you can disconnect the connector at any time.
